Prof. Dr. Ayla SAN

Ayla San graduated from Ankara Medical University in 1967 and received Internal Medicine and Nephrology degrees in 1972 and 1983, respectively. She realized the first dialysis in the Eastern after she was appointed to establish Nephrology Department in Erzurum Ataturk University. She founded a dialysis center in 1984 and made Ataturk University among the frontiers in the country. She organized the second national Nephrology Congress and led to continuity of the congress for a long while. She worked as the only nephrologist in the Eastern Turkey, assisted in the establishment of many dialysis centers, particularly for Gumushane and Kars public hospitals, and trained many dialysis staff. She became professor in 1988. In 1991, she founded Tissue Typing Laboratory and  in 1993 she established Nephrology and Hypertension Outpatient Clinic. Ayla San worked in several administrative positions and also served as the Director of Internal Medicine Department for a long time. She is a member of Turkish Nephrology Association since 1973, assumed responsibility of Eastern Turkey and also worked as a board member for the same association. She has been also a member of Health Ministry Scientific Committee  for Dialysis since 1993.

Ayla San has many memberships related to her profession both national and international, such as EDTA (since 1979), ISN (since 1981), NKF (since 2000) and ASH (since 2001). She participated in many congresses both in locally and abroad, and has 155 articles and 26 Nephrology booklets. She also edited 4 books. Ayla San gave speech in 36 conferences and joined 107national and 43 international congresses in total. She took on Nephrology counseling in several magazines. She participated training programs in Istanbul University for 8 months, and in Miami Medical University for 6 months related to nephrology and   in Osaka National Cardiovascular Center for 6 months concerning transplantation and its follow-up. She also participated in nephrology course of Harvard University in Boston. She renamed Ataturk University Medical Faculty Chronic Kidney Diseases Treatment Foundation that she established in 1980 as Anatolian Kidney Foundation and relocated its headquarters to Ankara in 1996. She formed ‘Health, Education, and Research Center’ within the foundation. Two books of her, namely, ‘The Past and The Present of Dialysis in Turkey’ and ‘Dialysis and Transplantation in Our Country’ are published in Turkish. Ayla San is the chief - editor of a 4-monthly periodical called ‘Renaliz’ that reached to 22nd issue.

Also Ayla San has been working at Ufuk University Medical School, Nephrology Section (in Ankara)  for a long time.

Photographic Works of Prof. Dr. Ayla San

Her interest in photography started with  nature pictures as backgrounds on lecture slides to attract attention of students, in 1985. She has prepared calendars for the foundation she established and served as president with pictures she took herself since 1990 and she started to have keen interest in photography.

 Ayla San received several prizes and has had photograph presentations during the years she worked in Erzurum. She also participated in mixed exhibitions. She set up her first personal exhibition named ‘Farewell with Pictures’ in 1996 and left Erzurum. She joined 81st Term Fundamental Training Seminars of Photograph Art Society in 1998 and is also a member of the Society. She was board member of the society during 2001-2002 period. Ayla San has prizes and exhibitions in Ankara also. She is rewarded with the first place in color photography and the second place in slide categories in Photograph Art Society Reading Days year-end evaluation of 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 period.

She continued to her active works, she prepared slide shows and her photograps were exhibited in Third Ankara Photography Days Combined Exhibitions arranged by Photograph Art Society. She hold “Buram Buram Gümüşhane” exhibition in Bursa, in 2004-2005 term. This exhibition were hold in Photograph Art Society in Ankara. Also “Dadaşlar Diyarı (land of brothers)” slide show were exhibited in Presentation Night of the magazine of ESAV Foundation. When she holds any congress Ayla SAN prepares photo shows related to topic and congress’city.

She has been attending in Trienberg Supercircuit (www.supercircuit.at) Competitions with other members of Photograph Art Society for two years. All the members of Photograph Art Society won golden medal (slide and press categories). Also Photograph Art Society with all members joined into the ten most successful clubs in 2005. 

She arranged “My Anatolia” exhibition for the sake of tenth year celebration of Anatolia Kidney Foundation in cooperation with in Photograph Art Society.

2006 is Foundation Celebration Year and May 8-14, 2006 was Foundation Week in our country and as part of these celebrations Anatolia Kidney Foundation arranged “Anatolia Kidney Foundation Day” and “Invitation to the Regard of Turkish Language” exhibition in May 8, 2006.
